Rooya premium basmati sella rice bag

Our story

We grew up eating rice.

About Rooya

Qabuli Palaw, Chalaw, Kichiri — these dishes were always part of our family meals, celebrations, and memories of home. Growing up with them also meant knowing what excellent basmati rice is supposed to look like, smell like, and taste like.

But in Germany and throughout Europe, we found a real problem: good basmati rice was often hard to find, inconsistent in quality, or simply too expensive.

So we decided to find it ourselves.

For almost two years, we researched and tested different varieties, producers, mills, farmers, and suppliers. We cooked rice again and again, comparing the length of the grains, the texture, the taste, and especially the aroma.

We were looking for the kind of rice that, the moment you lift the lid from the pot, fills the kitchen with its aroma and brings everyone to the table.

Finally, we found it.

Today, we are proud and excited to bring this basmati rice to our home in Hamburg — and from Hamburg to families, restaurants, and businesses throughout Europe.

Why Rooya?

Rooya means “dream” in Dari/Farsi.

For us, food is also about memories. A familiar taste or smell can take you back to a family table, a childhood kitchen, or a place you once called home.

We chose the name Rooya because this rice brings back those memories — the familiar aromas, the food we grew up with, and that feeling of home.

That is what Rooya means to us.

The Rooya Promise

We are so confident in our rice that we want you to try it for yourself.

Cook it. Taste it. Smell it. Look at the length of the grains.

If you are not happy with the taste, aroma, grain length, or cooking quality, bring it back to us and we will happily refund you.
